Kerrang contents page analysis

Colour
The colour mostly used is white, this makes the text and the other colours stand out. The images used take up most of the space as some of them are quite large, there are lots of colours used in the images but red seems to be used quite a lot. The red in the images match the word 'contents' and the text underneath the images. The text is also black which contrasts well with the white background. The colours used on the contents contrasts to the images used on the cover. Lastly the colours used show greendays fun side, and what they are like as a band. The colours, espessially the red brings more excitment to the page, and makes the contents less boring and dull.

Design

The contents spreads over two pages, this shows that there is a lot content inside the magazine. The images are in a neat order on both pages, there all lined up and not craped together. The text underneath is also in a neat order, its all in columns and seem very organised. There are scribbles over the contents page just like the cover, this makes it more exciting and shows the fun side of the magazine. The plain background tones down the contents and makes it look professional instead of cheap and tacky. It also makes you keep your eyes on the text and images. The neatness of the imags and text, and the scribbles and masthead 'Greenday' go well together as it targets the younger audiance and the older audiance at the same time, because it shows the fun and interesting side but also shows sopistication.

Images
The four images of Greenday show the stages of their career, and their different generations. Again it relates to both the younger and older generation, because the older generation would remember them and what they were like when they started off, and the younger generation will know what they are like now. All the images of Greenday show how fun and mischievous they are, and it makes you more intersted in them and want to read about them. There is also a big images of John Lydon from the sex pistols, this relates to Greenday as John is also a ledgend just like Greenday. Four of their albums are there to illistrate how successful they have been over the years, and it makes them look like true ledgends.

Pose, hair style, make-up
Some of the images are of Greenday performing to crowds, and some of them are of them hanging out as friends. This shows both sides of their lives and that they love making music but also making sure that they work on their relationship as frineds. The image when they were younger shows them with funky hair styles with different colours, this makes them look unique and interesting. The older image they still have funky hair, this shows they havent changed a whole lot. Billie joe armstrong is wearing eyeliner, which he does all the time, again makes them unique and gives them an edge, as you dont know a lot of men who wear it.

How are the words used?
The text on the contents pages are neat, this makes it easy to find the pages you want. The most eyecathing word is 'Greenday', its got the biggest font and the unique stlye makes it interesting, you can also tell that its the most important word. The red page numbers with the black text makes it easy to understand as its separated from the text. The word 'contents' is the only word with a red background, even though its small you know its important because its clear to see witht the red background. The headings are nice and clear, it brings attention towards it with the white text on a black background, and the black text and the white background. The words 'meet the band' suggests that you get to learn about the band as individuals and the audiance will like this as they can read in detail about their favourite genre. The scribbles relates to the pages, giving the readers more of an insight of whats inside.

Language
The different font size attracts the reader as it doesnt look the same and boring, but makes it exciting. The text is in everyday normal language which diffuses any confusion and is not intimidating to the target audiance. The stories features are unusual and make you want to read more as they are short, blunt, catchy and to the point. By using the word 'classic' instead of just stating interviews makes the interview sound of high importance and special.

Overall impression
It looks professional and smart, but also funky and vibrant at the same time. Its important that it looks high quality as its the 'ledgend' edition so it has to look good. The whole contents attracts a wide range of audiance as its focused on ledgens of rock. The quirky font style brings back thge youth to the magazine. Overall the contents has a sophisticated, fun, exciting impression which relates to the familliar elements of rock.
