Colour
The main colours used on this contents are black, white and red, this contrasts well making the page easy to understand and also sticking to the NME colour scheme. There is a bit of yellow on the bottom left, this stands out but not too much as there is only a little of it. There is enough for it to stand out and get the readers attention, but not too much that it dominates the whole contents page. It must be important, and want the readers to see it clearly especcially if its on a black background which makes it more eyecatching. The colours give it an old fashion, indie fell to it which is what they may have wanted, as indie is the genre of the magazine. NME is in red as thats the colour it has always been, and its also the magazine name so it should be the focus of the magazine.

Design
The design is very basic, easy to read and understand, so that the readers can spot which topic is on which page. The sub-heading for each topic are in large font for example 'Band index' this stands out for the reader to see. There is also the other headings down the right hand side which are clear to see. They are in a neat order making it clear to read. The main topic of the contents is placed in the centre of the page making it eyecatching, and the second largest font is being used making it seem important. Overall the whole design shows the genre of indie, its in a very neat style and seems to be very orderly.
Images
In this contents page you can see that there is only one main image which is shown in the near-center of the page which suggests that it associated with the main topic of this issue by NME. This image takes up more space than any other feature on this page therefore it automatically grabs the readers attention as it is the main story. The image is what looks like a retro feeling cinema from a low angle shot so that we can see up the building but this is very non-typical of music magazines as they typically have musicians placed on a contents page therefore this makes the reader wonder why they have chosen this picture which in turn will encourage them to read on. The image also sticks well the black, white, and red colour scheme which keeps the rock feel alive on the page so that the reader will always feel as though they are reading a rock genre magazine.
Pose hair style, Make-up
This contents page only has one main focus picture and because it is a building which is very untypical of a music magazine therefore it makes it hard to talk about pose, hair style, and make-up. There is no hair style throughout the picture/page, and no make-up, but there is the low angle shot of the building which appears to be a retro cinema. This allows us to see the whole top part of the building but surrounds it in mystery because it is so untypical of a music magazine just to put this picture of a building on the page.
How are the words used on this page?
The words on this page summarise clearly the content of the magazine. The stories in the contents are listed in a small yet bold text, with the segment headings i.e news are much bigger to show clearly what the text underneath is about. It also breaks it down so its more understandable so the reader. 'The end of the Astoria' is the biggest font appart from 'NME THIS WEEK', this shows this is the most important infomation that is featured in the magazine, and that they want it to stand out the most for readers to see.
Language
The word 'CONTENTS' immediately stands out indicating to the reader what the purpose of the page is. It is a word that is used constantly in reading material and will be very familiar to the audience. As well as this, the word and the way in which it has been represented also complies with the overall bluntness of the page. . Throughout the contents it almost seems as though the title and headings are being shouted at to you. I think the use of colours and capital letters are what portray this, as well as the 'to the point' language used.
Overall impression
I think that the whole contents goes well, even though they used a building as the main focus instead of a band. This makes it look unique and very interesting that makes you want to read further to see what its about. However one thing i dont like about this contents page is the yellow text at the bottom. I think it takes away the old fashioned feel to it, and makes it look a bit tacky and unprofessional. But overall i really like it, and think it works well for the genre of music.
